RIF A Kiwanis Club of Marco Island sponsored program
During the year, we expect to give away almost 2,400 books to the children. The students get very excited about receiving "free" books, and the volunteers have always found these days extremely rewarding and a lot of fun! Our other book distributions will take place in February and April of 2008. If you are interested in participating in the RIF program, you can call Diana Pagach at 394-8335, or e-mail her at pagachonmarco@earthlink.net.

CURRENT COMMUNITY SUPPORT
Terrific Kids Program
This is a student recognition program that promotes character development, self-esteem, and perseverance. Students work with their classroom teacher and establish goals to improve behavior, peer relationships, attendance, or schoolwork. Students then work toward achieving the goal during a specific time period. The teachers and principal determine the best schedule for recognition. Some schools recognize Terrific Kids during each grading period; others recognize students more often. Kiwanis club recognize students from Tommy Barfield and Manatee schools on a monthly basis. The students are invited to breakfast with their parents for recognition where they are given a Terrific Kids T-shirt, pencils and a plague for their outstanding achievement at school. Comments are read at this time from their teacher and pictures are taken. This program provides teachers with a tool to reward students for special achievements that may otherwise go unnoticed.
TERRIFIC - Is an Acronym meaning: Thoughtful Enthusiastic Respectful Responsible Inclusive Friendly Inquisitive Capable

Have you wondered who are some of the people who are chaperoning the kids at “Teen Night” at the YMCA, or bringing gifts of food and presents to needy families at the holidays, or sponsoring kids in need so they can go to summer camp, or paying for boats so the island can have a Youth Sailing program, or providing scholarship funds to our community’s children, or helping families pay medical bills when a child is desperately ill. We’re proud to say many of these wonderful people on our island are Kiwanis Club members.
